Burying Point

Established in 1637, Burying Point is the oldest cemetery in Salem and the second oldest in America. One of the most famous people buried in the cemetery is Justice John Hathorne, the great-great grandfather of writer Nathaniel Hawthorne. Our current Reverend, also named John Hathorne can also trace his roots back to the original John Hathorne, an infamous judge during the witch trials.
